PLATINOTYPE

The printing of this picture series has been carried out by Carlos Barrantes using the technique known as platinotype, a photographic process that first appeared in the XIX century. This process had a great acceptance from both fans and practitioners of artistic photography. After World War I, it practically fell in disuse due to the spectacular rise of the price of platinum. The basic characteristics of these photographs are their extraordinary stability, delicate tonality and the refinement of their details.

The printing is made on papers chosen for their texture and quality to which a photosensitive emulsion of platinum salts is applied. The photofinishing is made by contact with the negative, which is enlarged to the size of the final image.

Each photograph is signed and numbered by the author and printed on Arches-Platine paper - 310gr., 56 x 76 cm. Edition limited to 7 units numbered from 1/7 to 7/7, 2 author proofs numbered from I/II to II/II and 1 author proof –not for sale- numbered HC.

The platinotype technique offers, firstly, an exceptional longevity due to the unalterable properties of the platinum salts and, secondly, a capacity to register subtle tones that, together with its matte finish, produces images of great sensuality.
